Areas of expertise: craft and lifestyle; biography and profiles; roller derby; literature and popular culture.

Editor, writer and social media consultant, Derby News Network

June 2011 to September 2014

Editor, Australian Homespun (Universal Magazines)

April 2008 to April 2009

Homespun is Australia’s best-selling craft magazine and as the leader of a small editorial team, I was responsible for ensuring the high standards of the title were maintained. I worked closely with the publisher and advertising manager to create a magazine that appeals equally to readers, retailers and advertisers.

In addition, I was involved with styling photography shoots, worked directly with graphic designers on the magazine’s layout and had primary responsibility for researching and writing feature articles (8-10 per month, plus incidental writing).

Creativity, working under pressure, and staff and time management were the most important criteria for success in this role. I left the magazine in April 2009 to pursue academic opportunities.

Senior Editorial Assistant and Feature Writer

Australian Country Craft & Decorating (Express Publications)

January 2008 to April 2008

Reporting directly to the Editor, my key areas of responsibility were researching and writing feature articles (4-6 per month, plus incidental writing), sourcing products and props to feature in the magazine, liaising with contributors and briefing photographers and stylists. I was also involved in the training and supervision of other team members.

Editorial Assistant and Feature Writer

Australian Country Craft & Decorating and Country Threads magazines (Express Publications)

April 2007 to December 2007

Balancing the writing and production deadlines of two magazines, each working to strict deadlines and a three-week production cycle, required outstanding time management and task prioritisation.
